A youth program
that preceded Salt City Center for the Performing Arts
served inner-city children and began in 1963. The current TAFY
(Theatre Arts for Youth) programs continue to serve a diverse
population and imparts a tremendous, positive effect on the young people
of our community.
TAFY students develop discipline and self-esteem as well as experiencing
a sense of accomplishment through their exploration of all aspects of
theatre which includes improvisational theatre, music, dance, character
development, creative writing, directing, technical theatre and audition
training. The classes culminate with a theatrical performance which
allows the children to showcase their talents and what they have learned.
The production is open to the public.
Salt
City's approach has been featured on CBS-TV'S KID'S WORLD
and in the U.S. Department of Health, Education
and Welfare publications as a model for all Youth Theatre
Programs.
Adult
classes are also offered and include all of the disciplines required
for a well-rounded theatre program.
In
addition, other forms of art, such as drawing and painting are frequently
offered.
Please
call the Theatre for any additional programs that may be occurring at
the time.
